Success of Junior Fellows in Krakow and Warsaw!

Congratulations to iEBA-WG junior fellows Bendik Skinningsrud and Dominik Taterra for their successes in the International Medical Student’s Conferences in Warsaw and Krakow! 

Dominik Taterra and his co-authors B. Sanna, P. Pękala, A. Marcinów, J. Pękala, and Drs. Henry and Tomaszewski, were awarded 2nd place in the Surgery session during the 13 th Warsaw International Medical Congress for Young Scientists in Warsaw, Poland, and 3rd place in the Surgery session during the 25 th International Medical Student’s Conference in Cracow, Poland.

Bendik Skinningsrud and his co-authors WC Hsieh, B. Sanna, P. Pękala, J. Pękala, and Drs. Henry and Tomaszewski, were awarded 1 st place in the Cardiology session and participated in the Plenary Session during the 13th Warsaw International Medical Congress for Young Scientists in Warsaw, Poland, and 1 st place in the Cardiosurgery and Invasive Cardiology session during the 25 th International Medical Student’s Conference in Cracow, Poland, for their oral presentation entitled "Endovascular vs Open Repair in Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms in Young Patients: A Meta-analysis”. Additionally, Bendik Skinningsrud and his co-authors M. Zarychta, D. Paradowska, E. Kucharska, IM. Tomaszewski, J. Golec, P. Skotnicki, and Drs. Henry and Tomaszewski, were awarded 2nd place ex aequo in the Hematology and Oncology session during the 13th Warsaw International Medical Congress for Young Scientists in Warsaw, Poland, and 2nd place in the Hematology and Oncology session during the 25th International Medical Student’s Conference in Cracow, Poland, for their oral presentation entitled “Factors influencing health-related quality-of- life in Polish colorectal cancer patients without liver metastases”.

Lastly, a very special congragulations to Wan Chin Hsieh of the First Faculty of Medicine, Charles University, Prague who develeoped the "Endovascular vs Open Repair in Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms in Young Patients: A Meta-analysis” project which one first place in cardio sessions both in Krakow and Warsaw. Ms. Hsieh just finished a conference tour which took her to New York (American Association for Thoracic Surgery Mitral Conclave), Washington, D.C. (American Thoracic Society 2017 International Conference), and Greece (66th International Congress of the European Sociey for Cardiovascular and Endovascular Surgery). At the ESCVS in Greece, Ms. Hsieh presented 9 abstracts! Keep on rocking!

Congragulations to iEBA-WG member Przemek Pekala and his co-authors Drs. Henry, Tomaszewski, & Walocha, for winning Best Basic Science Poster for their poster entitled "Untangling The Twisted Structure Of The Achilles Tendon" at the 18th European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT) Annual Congress, Vienna, Austria.

Federative International Committee for Scientific Publications (FICSP) of the International Federation of Associations of Anatomists (IFAA) has announced their official endorsment and support of the AQUA Checklist and AQUA Tool! We thank the the committee and all of the IFAA for their supportive of our initiatives to advance anatomical research!

New article in The Journal of Urology!

Post-operative erectile dysfunction is a major problem in patients undergoing radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer, the most common cancer in men. In our very important new paper in The Journal of Urology (IF:4.7), we explore the vasculature of the penis and its role in preserving optimal post-operative erectile function. We hope the findings of this study led by Dr. Brandon Michael Henry, help improve the quality of life of men battling prostate cancer! Special congratulations to new EBA fellow Bendik Skinningsrud on his first publication!

Dr. Tomaszewski awarded habiliation (Doctor of Science)!

Dr. Krzysztof Tomaszewski, iEBA-WG coordinator was awarded habiliation (Doctor of Science) on January 19, 2017! His thesis topic focused on the evidence-based anatomy of the lower limb. Congragulations to Dr. Tomaszewski!

 

iEBA-WG Coordinators Top the Jagiellonian University Medical College Publishing Rankings in Year 2016!

Dr. Krzysztof A. Tomaszewski and Dr. Brandon Michael Henry were among the top 1% of all published researchers in 2016 at the Jagiellonian University in 2016! 

iEBA-WG Coordinators Dr. Tomaszewski and Dr. Henry ranked 2nd and 5th, respecitively, in total number of publications with impact factor in 2016 among over 1,500 employees at the university. Dr. Tomaszewski ranked 5th in total impact factor and 2nd in Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education score, while Dr. Henry ranked 23rd and 10th, respectively.

Dr. Henry, who graduated from medical school this past June, topped rankings in all parameters for university students during 2016, despite it only accounting for 6 months of his published research for the year (January-June 2016). 

We wish them both continued success in 2017! Thus far, Dr. Tomaszewski and Dr. Henry, are ranked 1st and 2nd, respectively, in total number of publications in 2017. 

iEBA-WG Members Win Award from the Polish Academy of Sciences

iEBA-WG Members Dr. Brandon Michael Henry and Przemek Pekala were the 2016 recipients of the prestgious research award of the Polish Academy of Sciences - "Laurel Medical Sciences. Doctor Wenceslas Mayzla "(Dr. Waclaw Mayzla Laureate in Medical Sciences) - for outstanding scientific Achievements during the course of their medical studies! Dr. Henry graduated from the english devision of the Faculty of Medicine with highest honors in June 2016. As a student, he published over 30 scientific manuscripts in peer reviewed international journals, topping the entire university rankings in both 2015 and 2016 in all publishing parameters for all students. Przemek Pekala will graduate from medical school in June 2017. He is the recipient of the prestigious Diamond Grant from the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Both are currently completing their PhD's at the university. Congragulations to them both!
